A Day At The SETX Food Bank

South East Texas Food Bank in Beaumont

8:30 AM.  After registration and sign-in (clock-in), Lindsay, Ron and I joined about 40 other volunteers gathered this morning at the South East Texas Food Bank for some coffee and doughnuts before work got underway at 9 AM…

Food Bank’s energetic executive director, Emelie Irving, made sure that each person was delegated with a specific task–whether it was filling the boxes with food items, pulling the pallet jacks, or sealing and stacking the boxes on pallets bound for distribution.  Overall, 1,200 boxes of food items were packaged this morning in just 90-minutes by the volunteers.

Lindsay was a major catalyst who got us involved in the first place

The South East Texas Food Bank declares in its mission statement:

Our mission is to procure and provide food and other resources to non-profit organizations to alleviate hunger in the impoverished areas of southeast Texas and the neighboring counties.  We servie the counties of Jefferson, Orange, Hardin, Jasper, Newton, Polk, Sabine, and Tyler.  We distribute to approximately 130 non-profit agencies within these 8 counties.

The work done today was only our introduction, a tiny glimpse of the tremendous contribution the Food Bank makes to our local communities in the fight to end hunger; yet every little bit helps, and maybe you will, too.–Lorenzo
