Fashionably Late Honda SH Finally Makes It To US

Monday, March 23, 2009

Thanks to 2strokebuzz.com and thescooterscoop.com for bringing this late-breaking and certainly long-awaited news to Scooterland!  It has been a year behind the Scooter Boom of 2008 (and some may say that Honda has missed the boat); but it’s never too late for the die-hard Honda fans.  Available this June, here’s your 2010 Honda SH 150i

No words yet as to whether or not its bigger sibling, the SH 300i, will be making its way to US (via Italy); but don’t you agree that Honda has not made a great move like this for as long as…I can’t remember.  Sure some cynics would argue that this is purely a calculated (albeit late) business decision to bring these Euro successes over to US after a fantastic year for scooters in 2008; but I for one would like to take this opportunity to thank and give credit to every single scooter-loving person for having expressed his or her hope, desire, agony, frustration, and even disgust  toward American Honda, forever praying that in its infinite wisdom, would one day see the light and bring the SH scooters over to these shores.  Cheers, you’ve done it now!  Yes, we can!  Yes, we did!  Honda finally listened.-Lorenzo

YEAH!! Honda’s not a dirty word anymore. Now if only they’ll get that 300 over here we’ll be able to love them again.

And that goes double for you Vespa-USA, we want a 300cc scooter.

That reminds me, the SH was designed and is built in Italy. It’s a really nice bike, and I always made a point of asking the Honda people at the Seattle Motorcycle Show why the HELL don’t sell it in the U.S. They would usually nod in agreement when I pointed out the price point is really close to a Vespa LX 150, Honda has way more dealers and therefore Honda is better equipped to provide the hand-holding the newbie scooterist—the most likely buyer—would require.

What remains to be seen is whether American Honda will do the marketing necessary to make this bike a hit…

Well,it is now January of 2011 and Piaggio is introducing for the U.S.A. it’s newly redesigned BV300.Perhaps this will shake up the sales guys at Honda.Meanwhile I will be turning 30K miles on my Vespa GT200 and will be eagerly awaiting a decision on which scooter to set my budget on.Will it be a BV or an SH 300?Finally,a reason to to give overused GT200 a rest!
