2008 Scooter Show Wrap-Up

This guy looks familiar...

We are sorry to inform you that Honda will not import the SH300i from Italy!  We are sorry to inform you that Honda will not import the SH300i from Italy!  We are sorry to inform you that Honda will not import the SH300i from Italy!  We are sorry to inform you that Honda will not import the SH300i from Italy!

Well, I’ve learned a thing or two today, and they weren’t all entirely scooter-related, either…

The air is very chilling at the scooter corner of the Honda Pavillion

The air is eerily bone-chilling at the scooter corner of the immense Honda Pavilion

I will leave you with these parting thoughts from the 2008 CW Motorcycle Scooter Show in Houston:

  • True happiness is an elusive thing.
  • To the common consumers, there are too many unknowns in the scooter business and will remain that way.
  • The Yamaha T-Max is a beautiful, wonderful, mechanical tour de force (if you’re in the market).
  • Kymco is coming out with some really nice-looking scooters with solid credentials.
  • American Honda/Honda Powersports doesn’t care about what we scooter riders want–never did and never will.*
  • The #1 #3 best-selling scooter in Italy this year, the Honda SH300, will never be imported to America (legally) by Honda so you can forget about it (and buy something else instead).*
  • The Honda DN-1 maybe the reason why we’re not getting the SH300 (OK, and ’nuff about dat)!
  • The best news I’ve heard all day was:  Beaumont maybe getting its very-own Vespa dealership soon(!)  And yes, You’ve heard about it here first!

For more exciting sights and sounds from the Scooter Show in Houston, please enjoy our BIG Slideshow on flickr!!

Oh, yes, on the way to Houston, we actually saw regular gas advertised for as low as $1.59/gallon!  So attention please, ladies and gentlemen, the 2008 Scooter Boom is officially over.–Lorenzo

* Today at the Motorcycle Show in Houston, an official Honda rep told me,”Sorry, but if you were disappointed last year and this year, you’re gonna be disappointed again next year…”. After listening politely to that bull♥hit, I wasn’t any angrier than before about Honda’s incapability of making up its mind on bringing the good stuff (SH300i) to US. Just a little more disappointed, or disgusted because the decision, or the lack thereof, seems like a total marketing failure and runs very much counter to the founding principles of Honda and the spirit of Soichiro Honda.  You know, Elton John was right–sorry seems to be the hardest word.

Great job Lorenzo on the pics!! I am disappointed that SH300i won’t make it over to the U.S. market; however, I am excited about Vespa coming to Southeast Texas!! I see a Vespa in the future. 🙂

Thanks (so sorry, too many bikes and not enough scooters)!

You’re right on both, Lindsay. Hopefully, this new development, if it turns out to be true, will get more people in the Golden Triangle excited about the same things we’re excited about scooters! We can finally get some factory service around here, and it’s about time! I will be so happy at the grand opening you just won’t believe it.

Just to be clear, are you saying Honda’s not going to bring the SH300i to the US market??? We know Honda doesn’t care what we want, if they did I could pick up a SuperCub at the local Honda shop.

Wish I could have gone to the show. I couldn’t think of a way to make a scooter show romantic enough for an anniversary getaway.

    Happy Anniversary, Angela and Paul!
Scooter show romantic? Not! It’s all business 🙂
Honda still sux, though; perhaps a SYM WoWow is more likely than a SuperCub.
