Have We Won?

Friday, November 14, 2008

Have you noticed that gas prices have plummeted recently?  Yes!  It helps a bit if you are on a scooter.  It helps a little more if you’re in a car.  It helps a great deal more if you’re in a gas-guzzling truck or SUV.  And if you are taking that twin-engined boat out with the big-ass Hummer pulling it ahead this weekend, you must feel like you’ve won the lottery and gone to Heaven…

And exactly, what did we win?

And exactly, what did we win?

In contrast, that scooter you might have bought while the price of gas was near or over $3/gallon thinking that you were gonna ride to work or around town must be seeing less and less action as prices (and temperatures) continue to fall.  Thinking about selling that scooter?  Well, you’re not alone, many have already listed theirs on Craigslist, for example.  Remember the once-popular Yuppie IT-dog of the 80’s Chow Chow?  That’s how your scooter must be feeling right now (as your interest for it cools), if it only had a heart.  You, on the other hand, were never too crazy, or remotely romantic about riding that scooter anyway, right, Mr. Pragmatist?  Tell me that isn’t true.

Just a theory, that it’s the same mentality behind the “Hummer” that brought the World to this economic crisis. There’s simply no peace-time application or need for such a wasteful excess of a thing. What kind of evil mind is behind all that anyway? Come forward and let me give you a swift kick in the…
