A Rare Look At Janis Joplin

Saturday, September 27, 2008

This short video is apparently a portion of an interview conducted during a high school reunion which she had attended in Port Arthur in the 70’s.  I am assuming that the clip was then used in a retrospective, or a biography about Janis Joplin which was produced and later sold to, or broadcasted in Japan (noticed the Japanese subtitles).  Anyway, thought that I would share this non-scooter-related video with you about a world-famous local artist.–Lorenzo

The Scooter Club paid a visit earlier this year to the Port Arthur home where Janis Joplin used to live:

I would love to know what’s really going on in coastal texas at the moment. Surely not revivals?

Lotta talk about rebuilding (from the very rich and powerful former residents); but Mother Nature will just reclaim everything with another hurricane (if the government doesn’t get it first). It’s a no-win situation.–Lorenzo

The footage of Janis Joplin’s 10th annual Port Arthur high school reunion was taped and used on the only autobiographical movie about her thus far…. “Janis” made in the 70’s.

This footage was shot in August 1970. Two months later, Oct 4th 1970 she died of a heroin overdose. A lot of speculation was made that because of the cold reception from her parents, her classmates, and the media at this event, which she hoped to finally get recognition and acceptance she craved, backfired and fueled the od.

    Thanks, Melissa, for the insight.–Lorenzo
