Graveyard Tour

Sunday, August 3, 2008

“At the end, this is where all scooters end up.” observed Ed upon entering the grounds of the “scooter graveyard” (aka The Cycle Shop) in Lufkin, Texas.  Owners Marcus and Dora Renfroe manage this modest motorcycle salvage yard on the side of Hwy 69 South…

In addition to playing caretakers of acres of various motorcycles, four-wheelers, mopeds and scooters resting (or is it rusting?) peacefully within the confines of this overgrown lot, the Renfroes also repair, restore and sell motorcycles and specialize in building custom Goldwing trikes.

A few weeks ago, a restorer of vintage scooters from Oklahoma drove here with his flat-bed trailer and bought all of the Allstates and Vespa junks, so if that’s how you spend your spare time also, then you maybe disappointed.  “But then again you never know, someone may come by and drop some off.” remarked Marcus.

Go by The Cycle Shop for a visit if you’re near this beautiful part of Texas.  You just may find something worth your time.  3415 E. Denman (Hwy 69 South), Lufkin, Texas 75901  Phone number: (936)-7555 (T~F) 9a~5p, (St) 9a~2p.–Lorenzo
